When you see white houses with blue rooftops on the cliff and the donkeys walking along the street, please do not doubt yourself, because you are on the right destination, Santorini.
Santorini is the main reason that pulls me back to Greece. I love the architecture, the food and the people in there.
How to get there
We can easily get to Santorini by flight and ferry. But remember, there are only two ferries to get there from Athens. If you try to catch the first ferry, please be prepared to rush to the port because it takes half an hour to get to the port and the ferry leaves Athens at 7 in the morning and the first metro runs at 6:00AM!
Where to stay
There are a variety of places for you to stay, from campsites to hostels and hotels.
It costs around eight euros to stay in the campsites, where at a proper hostel, the cost goes from 20 to 30 euros, and 200 to 400 euros for a luxury hotel.
A fun fact about the places to stay: Please be prepared to hear people moaning when you are choosing to stay in the campsites, because people are used to have wild fun in the tents. If you are a prince or princess back home, you should choose a proper hostel or luxury hotel.
Where to play
We can easily have access to any places within the island by bus, but I would prefer to rent a motorbike or car. Because it is a small island, we can travel around the whole area within 3 days, from Perissa to Oia.
Must do’s
- Watch the sunset at Oia
- Sunbathing at the red sea/white sea
- Watch the sunset at the infinity pool
- Watch sunrise at Kamari
Reminder: If you decide to rent a motorbike or car, please have your international driver’s license with you. Or else, if you are lucky enough and have money, some rental places will rent it to you anyways, as long as you pay.
Where to eat
They pretty much have the same kinds of dishes as they do in Athens. Most of them are Mediterranean food, but there is a special cafeteria, NRG, which I like a lot. It’s name means Energy and they serve crepes, sandwiches and milkshakes.
Recommendation from writer: Curry crepe and Nutella milkshake from NRG.
